GR Symphony Holiday Pops
The entire program was a lovely balance of beautiful holiday medleys and some incredible creative interpretations of Christmas tunes by Sam Stryke. The woodwinds from 4 sections of the performance hall were captivating. My husband and I and my brother from Birmingham, MI have decided to make it our family holiday tradition. It was really nice to listen to the youth orchestra out in the lobby prior to the performance. We were enjoying the first half so much that when the lights came on for intermission, we were taken aback! The whole evening was worth every penny and we're so appreciative. I'm so proud of our Mannheim Steamroller Christmas.

Jerrod Nieman, on the other hand, was a perfect addition to the group. Patrick Simmons is a great show, demonstrating why they've survived so long in this sometimes cut-throat industry. PS, Jr., sang some radio songs we know him for and played a mean ukelele to start things off. He best when singing some original songs. I lost all respect for him, however, over two of his actions. At one point, he tried to lead the crowd in a round of Day-O, the Harry Belafonte song used in the "Beetlejuice" movie. Huh? Then, later on, some guy wearing a donkey head comes on stage to play guitar to some stupid "bucking" song. Who did he think he was playing for? a crowd of three-year olds? Why did he think Mannheim Steamroller Christmas fans would be interested in seeing some guy run around stage playing guitar while wearing a donkey costume? Maybe teenagers go for stuff like that...us Baby-boomers, not so much (unless its a Govt Mule fan at a Govt Mule show :) ) Four days later, and I'm still pissed off about that part of the show. Mannheim Steamroller Christmas forever. If not an embarrassment to adult country music fans.
